Flooded Basement from Storm in Bowmanville Neighborhood, in Chicago, IL

May 2020 for Chicago was definitely a time for a storm event.  SERVPRO had several franchises from out of town who came to lend a hand.  At this residence the homeowner came down into the basement and discovered that his carpet was wet.  Upon further inspection and calling on a plumber, he found out that the city's sewage line became overwhelmed and spilled out into his home.  We had to extract the water from the carpeting in order to remove it.  When carpeting is soaked with water it is very heavy and difficult to transport out of the home without making more damage.  We also had to cut out the affected material like baseboards, drywall and insulation.  The wet sill plates and studs were treated with an anti-microbial and dried with a dehumidifier and air movers.  Homeowner had to install a French drain and a backup valve to make sure that this doesn't happen again.
